About Brita

I was born in a small town in Upstate New York, but have made my home in the sultry south for many years. In the Frog Capital of the World, I share my home with my real-life hero—my husband, and my sister. All our children are grown.

Given my love of history, I write historical fiction and both het and gay historical romance. Many of my historicals, as well as few contemporaries, have appeared on category bestseller lists at various online retailers.

Tarnished Gold, the first in my Tarnished series for Dreamspinner Press, was a winner in the 2013 Rainbow Awards, historical romance category. Beloved Unmasked, also with Dreamspinner, won Best Book and Best Historical in the 2016 Rainbow Awards.

My husband and I love to travel. We've taken no less than twenty-five cruises and countless long car trips, as well as completed a Civil War battlefield tour, and visits to many sites involved in the American Revolutionary War. Our 2013 anniversary tour of England, Scotland, and Wales gave me fodder for many new tales.

On a trip to Hollywood, California, I've stood in the footprints of some of my favorite actors—Clark Gable, Henry Fonda, Tyrone Power, and many others, at Grauman's Chinese Theater, and I've even kissed Mickey Rooney.

My lifelong love of old Hollywood came full circle with my Tarnished series. The first book, Tarnished Gold, tells the story of Jack Abadie, a young man, who, in the early 19teens, goes to Hollywood to be a star.

The second book in the series is Tarnished Souls: Frankie and Gent, and it tackles the Mafia and their grip on early Los Angeles. Beloved Unmasked rounded out the series and brings into focus legalized prostitution  in New Orleans's Storyville, in the late 19th Century/early 20th century.

My most recent epic series, the Delacroix Saga, include Cedar Grove, a Civil War-era story, and After Dark Rag, the story of a young Creole man in the early years of ragtime music.

A bit of trivia—I pronounce my name, Bree-ta, and not Brit-a, like the famous water filter. Brita Addams is a mash-up of my real middle name and my husband's, with an additional d and s.
