Tarnished Souls: Frankie & Gent

Hollywood’s Golden Age is not all glitz and glamour. Mob boss Frankie Monetti controls the unions and the studios, which makes him and the syndicate very rich. But after five years, Frankie runs afoul of the law and those who put him in power.

Primo hit man, and Frankie's lifelong friend, Gent Vitali, goes west with orders to clean up the mess and then bring Frankie back to New York to answer for his double cross. But as the noose closes tighter around Frankie's neck, Gent questions where his loyalty truly lies. Is business just business or is freedom worth the risk?

Note from author: This is not a romance. Rather, it is the story of two hard-bitten mobsters, who have a past and a questionable future.

Reviews

The story was intriguing with lots of twists and turns. I liked that it was hard to figure out and the end really caught me off guard. I also liked that what sex there was, was rough and tumble, not sweet and gentle. I felt it fit the context of the story and added a sexy vibe to help soften the violence.

If you like mobs, gangsters, twists and turns, assassins, forbidden love, and a shocking end, this is for you. - Cathy

Brita has done it again! Tarnished Souls: Frankie and Gent is an excellent historical read. From page one, you are transported into the 1930’s and not because the date is provided. The authenticity of the setting and the slang for the times makes you forget you are actually in 2013! - Brenda Cothern Books

I liked that the story didn’t try to make excuses for the men but let them be who they were; not good men and they weren’t redeemed by the end but still interesting characters. The descriptive quality of the writing is good and definitely caught my attention and desire to read more from this author. - Kassa

Ms. Addams unflinchingly and perfectly depicted the exoticness and unruliness of this time. With these larger than life characters the author managed to capture the essence of a forbidden love betrayed by outside forces battling for happiness. The protagonists haven't always lived a clean life but in their effort to better themselves they lived the life they were dealt in a thrilling and at times heartbreaking journey. Ms. Addams has accomplished more in these 90 pages than others have done in far more and I look forward to revisiting this world soon. - Jody Faltys, Words of Wisdom from the Scarf Princess

This is a character driven story with a smooth plot flow, and a richly detailed backstory that fills in any gaps in the storyline. The characters are vividly drawn, and we get a fascinating look into what life was like in the Mob in the 1930′s, and what really went on behind the curtain of Hollywood’s Golden Age. The author’s writing style is crisp, clean, and very original, displaying a very well researched and accurate knowledge of what life was like during that time. I really liked how no punches were pulled on just how brutal life in the Mob could be. - Becky Condit
